4D applications are built to last. In your solution's life cycle, you will no doubt update and improve it over the course of time, as well as maintain and keep an eye on its daily operation.
Update your customers from version X to version X.1 automatically. Your new data structures can be delivered by network, and your customers will be able to continue working almost seamlessly. Even with millions of records per table, your users will barely notice any interruption of service.
Install 4D once and for all on all client nodes likely to use your application... and forget them. For future updates to your application or 4D itself, 4D Server will play the role of application server (on top of its data server duties), and distribute new versions automatically, based on the versioning rules that you will have defined.
The administrator will intervene only on the 4D Server end. The user doesn't need to do anything, except perhaps wait a quick minute while the application updates and restarts itself.
Program the frequency of backups to your liking. Activate the restoration function in order to be able to recover your data in an instant after a serious incident (network or drive failures, etc.). Easily restore your data to a chosen point in time, get backup reports, or even program your application to react differently to different scenarios.
Primary operations for maintaining, verifying, and repairing data and indexes, as well as compacting and defragmentation, are available via the admin interface or programmatically, and can be performed without any interruption of service.
